Overview

The Queensland Dwarf Goby Eviota queenslandica is a small and peaceful marine fish, only reaching a total length of one inch at maturity, so it is ideal for small or shallow reef tanks. Sometimes species in the Eviota genus (along with Trimma) is referred to as Dwarf Goby or Pygmy Goby. If kept in a group, the members will shoal. In nature, groups will live on coral rubble, scavenging detritus and copepods. It does not nibble on corals, so is a safe option for reef aquariums. It is a peaceful fish and easy to care for because it accepts a variety of small foods and adapts well to a captive environment.

Eviota queenslandica has an all over greenish gray color with dark spots on its head. The margins of the scales on its body are brown to red in color. It also has brown vertical bars running across its body. Its fins are dotted with small dark brown spots.

This Goby should be kept in an aquarium that replicates their natural environment with live rock on which it can feed and should be housed with other peaceful non-aggressive fish or inverts that will not view them as food.

This member of the Gobiidae family is an omnivore that will forage algae, copepods, and detritus it finds on live rock or in the substrate, but their diet should be supplemented with frozen foods that will fit into their small mouths.
