Overview

Contrary to its name, the White Cichlid Paraneetroplus argenteus actually has a silvery white background with black undertones in the fins. This tropical freshwater fish can display aggression toward smaller fish, so keep them in a tank with other larger fish with similar temperament. Provide plenty of room to swim and have many hiding places to establish territories in to help ease aggression. Growing to about 10 ½” when fully mature, they are difficult to sex, but males are usually larger than the females.

To create a tank environment that White Cichlids will thrive in, good filtration is necessary, as these fish produce a lot of waste. A tropical fish, they prefer water temperature between 78-86 degrees with pH levels of approximately 7.0 in a tank of at least 75 gallons in size. The White Cichlid likes to uproot plants, so select hardy options for the tank bottom. They also use floating plants as cover.

White Cichlids spawn on cleaned rocks and can lay up to 1000 eggs. Cichlids parents may eat their spawn.

White Cichlids are omnivores that will eat most prepared and frozen foods, including freeze-dried bloodworms, brine shrimp, and tubifex, as well as flake food and Cichlid pellets.
