Overview

If you are searching for a large, impressive Goldfish, your search is over! LiveAquaria® is excited to offer our Premium Jumbo Ryukin Goldfish (Carassius auratus) assortment. These fish are part of the exotic Fancy Goldfish variety and contain all the features that you are looking for when you want to add impressive specimens to your freshwater environment. These members of the Cyprinidae family are indeed jumbo, as this freshwater fish grows to 8” when fully mature. They also contain all of the endearing Ryukin Goldfish characteristics: a curved backbone with a distinct hump on their backs immediately behind their heads, a triangular shaped body with a fat belly, a small, pointed mouth, and their most elegant feature: long feathery fins. This fancy assortment contains fish whose color palette consists of red, orange, and white showcased in vibrant, colorful variations.

All goldfish are members of the carp group and are generally quite hardy. The Premium Jumbo Ryukin Goldfish will do well in a freshwater tank of 50 gallons of water or more with a fine gravel bottom and hardy, cold water plants. Goldfish are diggers and will scatter the fine sand onto leaves, injuring thin and less hardy plants. Because these are peaceful freshwater fish, you will want to provide a safe environment for them by choosing tankmates that are not competitive. They are also excellent options for ornamental backyard garden ponds or water barrells of 180 gallons or more. Roots and well-rounded river rocks are a good addition to the aquarium or backyard pond.

There appears to be a definite courtship ritual when goldfish breed. Breeding often results in up to 1,000 eggs, with fry hatching in five to six days. When breeding, feed small pieces of live or prepared foods designed for egg-laying fish.

Goldfish are omnivores and will eat all types of dried and live foods. However, limit protein intake to 30% of the diet. Goldfish flake or pellet food will provide the Premium Jumbo Ryukin Goldfish with the proper nutrition.
