Create a monochromatic masterpiece with the Virginia Water Lily. The addition of this hardy, free-blooming water lily is sure to create a magical pond landscape during the height of summer and into late autumn with a profusion of large paper-white blossoms. The elongated flower petals emphasize the graceful appearance of the star-shaped flowers. The hardy Virginia Water Lily is relatively easy to grow with an adaptable growth habit, making it a great water lily for smaller or larger ponds and water gardens as well as container water gardens.

Even when it's not in bloom, the Virginia Water Lily provides fantastic visual interest with its ornamental, saucer-like leaves or "pads." The color of the leaves will vary depending on its age but are typically bright green in coloration with reddish mottling. Typical of hardy water lilies, the Virginia Water Lily produces round leaves with smooth edges. The leaf spread (or the amount of water surface area covered by the leaves) is approximately 4 to 5 ft and provides shade and protection for your pond fish, as well as a potential spawning site for pondlife.

The Virginia Water Lily should be potted in a two-gallon or larger planting container. To help your newly potted water lily establish itself faster in your pond, place the water lily at an initial depth of six inches below the water surface. As the water lily grows, it can be gradually lowered to its ideal depth of 12-18 inches below the water surface. The Virginia Water Lily does best in sunny conditions where it receives six or more hours of direct sunlight. However, the Virginia Water Lily can thrive in varying light conditions and will even bloom in partial shade conditions receiving up to four hour of direct sunlight. Zones 4-11.
