Overview

Anacharis Egeria densa is one of the most popular and celebrated pond and freshwater aquarium plants due to its easy care level and high growth rate. It is known also as Brazilian Waterweed, Brazilian Elodea, Leafy Elodea and Dense Waterweed. In addition, it is tolerant of a range of aquarium conditions and is a great first plant for beginners to introduce. This plant is fast growing, and its growth rate will accelerate if lighting is increased.

This background plant can grow to 12” in an aquarium and is a high oxygenator. The introduction of Anacharis will help to control algae as it takes nutrients from the water that algae require. It has a bright green color that deepens or darkens when placed under water. At home floating on the water surface or planted into the substrate, it has a lush appearance because of its leafy branches. Its leaves have serrated edges when viewed up close. When in bloom, it displays white flowers. Egeria densa provides shelter for fish and fry, as well provides a lot of surface area for egg laying.

Propagation is accomplished by rooted cuttings.
