Overview

Live corals are important contributors to the structure of a saltwater reef in nature as well as in reef aquariums. Our Certified Captive Grown Coral Long Polyp Goniopora Coral (Goniopora sp.) are grown by our dedicated Wisconsin staff at our own LiveAquaria® facility. We are committed to providing healthy and attractive alternatives to wild caught specimens, so as not to contribute to the world’s declining coral reefs.

The LiveAquaria® Long Polyp Goniopora Green Coral looks dramatically different when it is open compared to when it is closed. When closed, the coral is brown and displays a bright green center, but the green is only evident on the polyp tips when opened. When opened, the coral has a flower-like appearance.

Requiring a moderate care level because they are aggressive, it is important to leave space between them and any neighbors when they are planted due to the fact that they will expand their sweeper tentacles well beyond their base as they grow and can sting (and even kill) their neighbors. If this level of spacing is not possible, you may want to consider a Goniopora Coral-only reef tank.

The LiveAquaria® CCGC Aquacultured Long Polyp Goniopora Green Coral will satisfy the majority of their nutritional requirements by means of photosynthetic, symbiotic zooxanthellae algae hosted within their bodies. They will also benefit from occasional broadcast feeding in the form of micro-plankton or foods designed for corals.

Hobbyists who use our LiveAquaria® Professional Reef Salt have the added benefit of knowing marine species shipped from our Wisconsin Facility share the same water parameters. In other words, if you use our Professional Reef Salt, marine species shipped from our Wisconsin Facility will acclimate and transition to your home aquarium with less stress to set the foundation for longer term success.

For continued good health, these hard corals will require the addition of supplemental calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water, with a strong water flow and moderate to high lighting. The coral frag is fused to a ceramic plug.
