Overview

Live corals are important contributors to the structure of a saltwater reef in nature as well as in reef aquariums. Our Certified Captive Grown Coral Aquacultured Red and Orange Cyphastrea Coral (Cyphastrea sp.) are grown by our dedicated Wisconsin staff at our own LiveAquaria® facility. We are committed to providing healthy and attractive alternatives to wild caught specimens, so as not to contribute to the world’s declining coral reefs.

Most Cyphastrea Coral have an encrusting formation and are popular because they are hardy and fast growing. Adding to the reasons hobbyists find them interesting is that they can undergo some color shifting, displaying more vibrant colors when tank conditions are optimal. The LiveAquaria® Red and Orange Cyphastrea Coral has a green body, red tentacles, and orange ‘eyes.’ Requiring a moderate care level because they are semi-aggressive, it is important to leave space between them and any neighbors when they are planted due to the fact that they will expand their sweeper tentacles well beyond their base as they grow.

The LiveAquaria® CCGC Aquacultured Red and Orange Cyphastrea Coral will satisfy the majority of their nutritional requirements by means of photosynthetic, symbiotic zooxanthellae algae hosted within their bodies. They will also benefit from occasional broadcast feeding in the form of micro-plankton or foods designed for corals.

Hobbyists who use our LiveAquaria® Professional Reef Salt have the added benefit of knowing marine species shipped from our Wisconsin Facility share the same water parameters. In other words, if you use our Professional Reef Salt, marine species shipped from our Wisconsin Facility will acclimate and transition to your home aquarium with less stress to set the foundation for longer term success.

For continued good health, these corals will require the addition of supplemental calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water, with medium to strong water flow and moderate lighting.

This coral comes on a ceramic plug that can be placed easily and securely in or between the rockwork in your reef aquarium.
